old buttons - new memories

Came across this image of a colorful bunch of buttons while surfing the web --- and felt compelled to share it. These individual pieces of wonderfulness and utility are saved and sometimes forgotten but remain useful if we choose to remember and use them. As they get loose or fall off of our clothes we treat them like most memories - put away for a rainy day. They are gathered and collected from garments we wear and love -- to pieces. Here we are in the AI FOR AI studio making our samples - sometimes with these loose pieces of thread, buttons, and a few ideas from our memories to create our vision of the future. We hope you get to wear and share until the things you love begin to fray and tear and make new memories of their own like we do.

AI FOR AI 1st Show - in the LA TIMES!

L.A. Fashion Collective celebrates local talent

While downtown “fashion week” festivities have commenced, a few events still linger on the Westside, showcasing local designers in nontraditional venues and presentations.

The L.A. Fashion Collective highlighted four contemporary collections at a crowded cocktail party Wednesday night. Looks from the fall/winter 2010 lines of Dolan, Barlow, Jane Oh and Ai for Ai were on display at Bond St. inside the Thompson Hotel. Two models donned one ensemble for about five minutes then changed into another designer’s clothing, giving ample time to take in the black cocktail dresses and slouchy fleece pants, but difficult to see everything in a timely manner. But the party seemed to be more about support than actually seeing the clothes. Guests at the event were a mix of fashion folk and friends and fans of the designers who excitedly snapped pictures and seemed genuinely thrilled for their moment.

And from the clothing I did see, Ai for Ai shined as an interesting collection of fluid and modern separates with a slight goth undertone. Think "Twilight," grown up and much more girly.

Weeeeee believe in magic!

Our friends Dylan & Caroline invited us out to the Magic Castle in good ol' Hollywood, CA this past week. It was a delightful time and we felt like little kiddies again. In the close-up and intimate parlor room of 21 seats we got to see superb sleight of hand tricks. Right after we mosied on over to the big room with a big stage and were treated to big stage personalities, light sabers, flaming torches and lots of body slicing action. Uhhhh, did somebody say, no cameras???

not only do our friends at Soi 7 restaurant serve delicious modern thai food but the place is tastefully filled with beautiful custom made wood and tile work from thailand. and they have a hefty tea selection for you aficionados. do yourself a favor and try those drunken noodles!!
